Anthropic Releases Claude Sonnet 5.5 with Focus on Coding and Agents
Anthropic has released Claude Sonnet 5.5, positioned for coding, agentic tasks, and everyday work. The model is more than 30% faster than Sonnet 5 and up to 30% cheaper per task through lower token consumption. The gains are largest in programming: 70.6% on Terminal-Bench 4.0, up from 10.3% for Sonnet 5, and 55.5% on CursorBench 4.0, roughly two points behind Opus 5.5. On GDPval-AA it nearly matches Opus 5.5.
Anthropic says the model works through codebases faster, makes fewer tool calls, and takes fewer steps per task. It also handles long-horizon tasks, images, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations better than its predecessor. API pricing is $2 per million input tokens, $10 per million output tokens, and $0.20 per million cache reads. Sonnet 5.5 is available in Claude, the API, AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure under the model ID claude-sonnet-5-5.
