OpenAI has notified SpaceX that it is terminating the contract that gave the Cursor coding environment access to its APIs, with access cut off on November 12, 2026. The creator of ChatGPT deliberately chose the farthest date permitted by the current agreement to give developers time to migrate. OpenAI cites distrust of Elon Musk’s corporate structures — pointing to repeated terms-of-service violations by X and xAI — and says it is closing access to its technologies for security reasons ahead of the release of its Astra model.
