SpaceX has agreed to acquire Anysphere, the startup behind the AI coding assistant Cursor, in a deal valued at roughly $60 billion paid in SpaceX stock. The acquisition bolsters Elon Musk’s xAI in the AI coding market—Cursor engineers are already working at xAI offices on a new joint model, while Anysphere gains access to SpaceX’s compute infrastructure and chip stockpiles. The deal also helps xAI fill a talent gap after dozens of specialists departed the project, with Anysphere’s team and its in-house recruiting agency joining the fold. Anysphere will operate independently, with its CEO continuing to lead the company.
