ChatGPT Ads has surpassed $1 billion in annualized revenue less than 200 days after launch, having hit the $100 million mark just six weeks into the pilot. The pace makes OpenAI’s $2.4 billion ad revenue forecast for 2026 look increasingly conservative, with longer-term projections of nearly $11 billion in 2027 and about $102 billion by 2030. The key bet is growing ad revenue per user from roughly $3.5 today to almost $60 by 2030 — OpenAI argues ChatGPT offers advertisers a much richer intent signal than a search query or feed post, since users describe purchase goals, budgets, and preferences across multiple messages. Tens of thousands of advertisers in 40+ countries already use the platform, while ChatGPT itself surpassed 1 billion weekly active users. Ads currently appear only on the Free and Go tiers: conversation context may be used to match relevant ads, but advertisers never see personal chats and paid placement does not influence ChatGPT’s responses.
