OpenAI will begin showing ads to ChatGPT users in 31 European countries starting August 24. Ads appear only on the Free and Go tiers — paid subscribers won’t see them — and the ad platform has been live in the US and eight other regions since February 2026. OpenAI says ad revenue will support free access to its models.

The company promises to label ads clearly, keep them from influencing model responses, never show advertisers chat contents, and refrain from selling user data to third parties. Businesses can already apply to place ads via the Ads Manager.
