Sweden’s Government Offices (Regeringskansliet) has restricted staff access to public AI services that lack a separate contract for handling sensitive data, and its director of digitalization framed the move as a risk to the protection of government information. Per Swedish Radio’s Ekot, the Swedish Tax Agency and the National Board of Institutional Care (SiS) have already enforced blocks, and the Enforcement Authority is preparing the same rules.

Audits prompted the decision: staff were routinely uploading work material to about ten public platforms.

Rather than give up the automation gains, the Government Offices is moving staff onto its own infrastructure, where remaining Claude and ChatGPT use will run only through a secure internal platform alongside the corporate Microsoft Copilot.
