Japanese industrial robotics maker FANUC, in partnership with Google, has announced an AI Welding Agent built on Gemini Enterprise that removes the need to teach a welding manipulator by hand. The system reads an engineering drawing, identifies material properties and part geometry, then generates both the arc parameters (current and voltage) and the full spatial motion program on its own, leaving the operator to start the process or make small corrections.

The stack is hardware-independent and works with any supported welding power source, and it needs no extra optical equipment for scanning: a built-in camera in the standard FANUC CRX teach pendant tablet captures the drawing. FANUC will demonstrate AI Welding Agent at the International Welding Show in Tokyo from September 16, with commercial shipments planned for late December 2026.
