OpenAI is shutting down GPT-3.5 Turbo — the model that introduced millions of people to the ChatGPT era. Per the retirement schedule, gpt-3.5-turbo-1106 will be discontinued on September 28, 2026, and gpt-3.5-turbo-0125 on October 23, 2026. Launched in late 2022, GPT-3.5 Turbo showed the mass audience that AI could chat, write texts, code, and solve tasks — and less than four years later, one of the most iconic models in generative AI history is bowing out for good.
