Anthropic has signed the EU AI Act’s Article 50(2) Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content and outlined how Claude will comply. Claude models launched in the EU on or after August 2, 2026 will support machine-readable marking from day one: generated text will carry embedded, imperceptible watermarks, and generated files (.svg, .png, .jpg) will include digitally signed provenance metadata following the C2PA open standard. Marking applies across all surfaces — Claude Platform (API), Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Claude Tag — wherever Claude is offered worldwide, with detection mechanisms for users and third parties to be published in forthcoming documentation. Anthropic notes that a detected mark is a signal rather than conclusive proof of provenance, and is working to add marking support to models released before the cutoff during the transition period.
