A record eight Pulitzer Prize nominees this year disclosed using language models in their work. The Pulitzer committee introduced a rule requiring mandatory AI disclosure in the current cycle, and next year it will extend to book nominations.

According to the Nieman Foundation, outlets like the Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, and New York Times use LLMs mainly for processing large datasets during the research phase. Generating or editing final texts with AI remains prohibited for award applicants.
