AI text detector GPTZero has identified fabricated citations and false claims in four reports from PwC’s Middle East division dating from 2024 to 2026. One document, “Transforming Governance,” was found to be 84% likely fully AI-generated — it promotes PwC’s Citizen Pulse product claiming government adoptions in Denmark, Saudi Arabia, the US, and Australia without any verifiable evidence. GPTZero identified a pattern they call “vibe citations”: the higher the AI-generation share, the more non-existent sources appear, with footnotes placed randomly that contain no real authors or valid URLs. The problem extends across the Big Four — GPTZero has previously uncovered similar fabrications in reports from KPMG, Deloitte, and Ernst & Young. PwC stated they take data accuracy seriously and are updating sources, but did not explain how hallucinations entered official documents.
