Apple Sues OpenAI for Trade Secret Theft in Blockbuster Case
Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the company of orchestrating a coordinated campaign to steal confidential information about unreleased Apple products for its own AI hardware. The complaint names OpenAI’s hardware lead Tan Tang, a former Apple VP of product design, and ex-Apple engineer Chang Liu, alleging that Liu downloaded dozens of confidential hardware development files. Apple claims over 400 former Apple employees now work at OpenAI and that the company encouraged departing staff to share materials, schematics, and product information. Apple is demanding that OpenAI destroy the stolen materials and redesign any future devices that incorporate its technology.
