Chinese AI startup MiniMax is preparing to release an open model with 2.7 trillion parameters in Q3, under the working name M3 Pro—making it the largest known model in China. The architecture has been scaled to improve logical reasoning and precise multi-step instruction following, a significant jump from the company’s current flagship M3 at 428 billion parameters.

With this release, MiniMax aims to strengthen its market position and compete with local rivals including Zhipu, DeepSeek, and Moonshot AI.
