Chinese AI company MiniMax is preparing to release an open-source model with 2.7 trillion parameters, according to a report from The Information. The release could happen as early as Q3 2026 and would make it the largest Chinese AI model to date—more than six times the size of the company’s current flagship, MiniMax M3.

The announcement signals that the wave of open AI models from Chinese labs is still accelerating, with the most significant releases potentially still ahead.
