Midjourney Unveils Full-Body Ultrasound Scanner as Its First Hardware Product
Midjourney, best known for its AI image generator, has introduced its first hardware product—the Midjourney Scanner, a full-body ultrasound scanner built in partnership with Butterfly Network. The setup uses 40 Ultrasound-on-Chip modules and a ring of thousands of transducers: a person submerges in water and the system produces a 3D image of muscles, fat, bones, and organs in 60 seconds, with CEO David Holz comparing the quality to MRI. The company plans to open a Midjourney spa with ten scanners in San Francisco by the end of 2027, positioning the product as a “spa experience” rather than a medical service to avoid FDA diagnostic-imaging clearance. A privacy policy for the scan library—which users could share with doctors and AI services—has been promised closer to launch.
