Anthropic Introduces ID Verification for Personal Claude Accounts
Anthropic will require identity verification for personal Claude accounts starting July 8, using the Persona service to request photo ID and selfies when abuse or underage usage is suspected. The mechanism has been tested on a limited sample since April 2026. The company has also revised its data-sharing policy with law enforcement, replacing the requirement for a formal legal subpoena with a “good faith belief” standard—giving Anthropic discretion to share personal information and conversation history without a court order. The changes do not apply to corporate clients or API users.
