MIT Creates AI-Powered Artificial Muscle Fibers
Researchers at MIT have developed artificial muscle fibers controlled by AI, mimicking the natural movement of human muscles. These fibers contain sealed tubes with electrically charged fluid and a miniature electric pump that contracts and relaxes the fiber silently without motors or external pumps. The fibers can be bundled to scale strength and have demonstrated the ability to bend robotic arms and lift dumbbells while remaining soft enough to shake a human hand. This innovation paves the way for future advancements in prosthetics, exoskeletons, and industrial robots by shifting from motor-based designs to biologically inspired systems.
