GitHub announced important changes to its Copilot Individual plans to ensure a stable and predictable experience for existing users. New sign-ups for Pro, Pro+, and Student plans are paused, and usage limits for individual plans have been tightened with Pro+ plans offering over 5 times the limits of Pro. Additionally, Opus models are no longer available in Pro plans, with Opus 4.7 remaining only for Pro+ plans.

To improve transparency, usage limits are now displayed in VS Code and Copilot CLI, helping users avoid hitting the limits unexpectedly. GitHub encourages users needing higher limits to upgrade to Pro+ and offers refunds for April usage if customers cancel between April 20 and May 20.

These changes address increased compute demands driven by agentic workflows and aim to maintain service reliability.
